Saudi Arabia sought to assure the public that the kingdom was Ebola-free as an estimated two million Muslims from all over the world have begun the annual Islamic hajj pilgrimage. Saudi Arabia has made contingency plans in the event of an Ebola outbreak, including deploying medical staff at airports and setting up isolation units.
Earlier in the year, Saudi Arabia had announced it will not issue visas to pilgrims coming from Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea due to the spread of Ebola in those countries.
